Scholarship

The Urban League of the Greater San Francisco Bay Area is proud to announce the establishment of the Anita L. Maxey Educator's Scholarship in honor of the esteemed educator, Mrs. Anita L. Maxey. Mrs. Maxey's dedication to teaching, her passion for education, and her commitment to empowering young minds have inspired the creation of this scholarship.

About Mrs. Anita Maxey 

Mrs. Anita L. Maxey was a revered educator who touched the lives of many students throughout her career. Her educational journey began at the HBCU University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff, where she earned Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She furthered her knowledge by obtaining a Masters in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona, Tucson. Her connection to the Bay Area was that she attended Notre Dame De Numur University for
teaching credentialing. Mrs. Maxey's teaching career spanned various school districts, including Benton Harbor School District, Tucson School District, Garvey School District, and Rosemead
Adult Education. She was recognized as one of the nations most respected teachers by Whose Who in America and was actively involved in educational organizations and community service
initiatives. Mrs Maxey was an educator who loved most of all teaching English. Her first love was her family, Kenneth (Husband), Sean (Son), Kenneth II (Son) and Maya (Granddaughter).

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be a high school senior or freshman in college.

  • Minimum GPA requirement: 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Aspire to become a teacher.

  • Intention to enroll in a 4-year university.

  • Residence in San Francisco or Oakland.

    • Fill out all required fields accurately and completely.

    • Submit the completed application electronically.

  3. Interview for Eligible Candidates:

    • Eligible first-time candidates will be contacted for an interview at a later date.

    • During the interview, prepare to discuss academic achievements, passion for

    • teaching, and commitment to community service.

  4. Submit Additional Documentation (if required):

    • Any additional requested documentation should be promptly submitted.
